If you want immersive spatial audio and a refined, luxury design for critical listening at home or in quiet offices, choose Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi; if you need industry-leading battery life and aggressive noise cancellation specifically for long-haul travel, choose OPPO Enco X3s.
• Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi: Delivers magnetic fluid drivers with Dolby Atmos head tracking for a cinematic experience, but offers a more conservative 10-hour single charge compared to its rival. Best for audiophiles who prioritize soundstage precision and seamless multi-device switching.
• OPPO Enco X3s: Features a massive 45-hour total battery life and 55dB hybrid active noise cancellation that rivals high-end over-ears, though it lacks the specific head-tracking spatial audio of the Technics. Best for travelers and commuters who need silence and endurance above all else.
• Verdict: The Technics is the choice for sonic fidelity and premium build feel, while the OPPO wins on raw power and flight-ready isolation.
The Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds are engineered for those who treat music as an art form rather than just background noise. At the heart of these earbuds lies a sophisticated driver system using magnetic fluid technology. This isn't just about volume; it is about controlling distortion so precisely that the bass remains tight and accurate without muddying the mid-range frequencies. If you spend your time analyzing the texture of a vocal track or the separation of instruments in a complex orchestral piece, the frequency response range from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz ensures you hear every nuance the recording intended. The impedance is set at 16 ohms, which pairs well with modern mobile devices to deliver a clean signal without requiring a dedicated amplifier, yet maintains that signature Japanese audio precision Technics has cultivated for over six decades.
What truly sets this model apart for the discerning listener is the integration of Dolby Atmos with Head Tracking. This feature transforms standard stereo recordings into a three-dimensional soundscape. When you turn your head to the left, the audio field shifts accordingly, placing sounds in the virtual room around you. This is not merely a gimmick; it creates a sense of immersion that standard wireless earbuds simply cannot match. It makes movie watching or listening to spatially mixed tracks feel like sitting in the front row of a concert hall. Combined with the Adaptive Noise Cancelling technology, which automatically adjusts to your environment, the Technics AZ100 provides a clear, emotionally rich soundstage whether you are in a boardroom or relaxing at home.

These earbuds are designed for people who value connectivity as much as they value sound quality. They support Bluetooth 5.3 and offer 3-point multipoint connection. This means you can seamlessly switch between your laptop, phone, and tablet without manually disconnecting one to connect to another. You might be on a video call from your work computer and instantly have your phone ring through without any interruption. The physical design is also worth noting; at 1.76 ounces for the full case, they are lighter and smaller than previous generations, with a lower-profile shape that contours to the ear for extended comfort. However, you must accept the trade-off of a 10-hour playback limit per charge. While the charging case extends this to 28 hours, it falls short of the ultra-long endurance needed for transcontinental flights without a recharge break.
The OPPO Enco X3s are built for the person who spends a significant amount of time moving through noisy environments. Their primary weapon is the 55dB Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation. Most consumer earbuds cap out around 40 to 45dB of attenuation. By pushing to 55dB across an ultra-wide frequency range up to 5500Hz, these earbuds create a wall of silence that effectively blocks out airplane engine rumble, office chatter, and city traffic. This makes them arguably the best wireless headset for flights available today, offering a level of focus that allows you to sleep or concentrate regardless of the cabin pressure or turbulence noise.
Battery life is where the OPPO Enco X3s completely dominate the conversation. With a staggering 45 hours of total playtime provided by the charging case, you can go weeks without plugging them into a wall. On a single charge, they last 11 hours, and even when utilizing the high-fidelity LHDC 5.0 codec, they still manage 9 hours. For frequent flyers or digital nomads who live out of their backpacks, knowing you won't run out of power before landing is a relief that outweighs other features. The inclusion of IP55 dust and water resistance further cements their place as a rugged companion for active lifestyles, ensuring they can handle sweat during a workout or heavy rain during a commute without missing a beat.
Audio performance here is driven by a collaboration with Dynaudio, a name synonymous with high-end car audio systems. The earbuds utilize dual dynamic drivers—an 11mm dynamic unit for bass and a 6mm planar tweeter for highs—paired with dual high-resolution DACs. This setup delivers studio-grade sound quality with LHDC 5.0 certification, supporting bitrates up to 1Mbps. The result is a "Dynaudio Featured" sound profile that feels silky-smooth and natural. While the sound is exceptional, the true strength of the OPPO Enco X3s lies in its ability to combine this clarity with extreme isolation. It is the ideal tool for anyone who needs to block out the world to focus, whether that is studying in a library, working in a busy cafe, or sleeping on a red-eye flight.
• Best for Battery Life → OPPO Enco X3s: The 45-hour total capacity and 11-hour single charge easily outlast the Technics' 28-hour total and 10-hour single charge, making it superior for long trips.
• Best for Spatial Immersion → Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi: Only the Technics offers Dolby Atmos with Head Tracking, providing a genuine 3D audio experience that OPPO does not replicate.
• Best for Noise Isolation → OPPO Enco X3s: With 55dB of hybrid ANC, the OPPO silences ambient noise more aggressively than the adaptive system on the Technics.
• Best for Multi-Device Switching → Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi: The 3-point multipoint connection allows simultaneous pairing with three devices, whereas the OPPO focuses on a standard dual connection approach.
• Best for Durability in Elements → OPPO Enco X3s: The IP55 rating provides a higher level of protection against dust and water compared to the standard sealing on the Technics.
• Best for Call Clarity → Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi: The Mind-Blowing Voice Focus AI chip is specifically tuned for voice calls, ensuring your voice comes through clearly in wind or noise.
• Best for Sound Detail and Bass → Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi: The magnetic fluid drivers offer a unique low-distortion profile that audiophiles often prefer for critical listening sessions.
• Best Value for Travelers → OPPO Enco X3s: The combination of massive battery, deep noise cancellation, and LHDC 5.0 support makes it the most practical choice for flights and commutes.
I would personally buy the OPPO Enco X3s for my next trip because the 45-hour battery life and 55dB noise cancellation are non-negotiable requirements for someone who travels frequently. While the Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi offers a slightly more refined and immersive audio experience with its head-tracking features, I rarely use spatial audio enough to justify the shorter battery life on a long journey. For flights, the ability to silence the engines completely and listen for days without charging is the ultimate luxury. The OPPO delivers the isolation and endurance I need to get through the trip, making it the better tool for the job.
Both models are excellent, but the OPPO Enco X3s is superior for flights due to its 55dB hybrid active noise cancellation and 45-hour battery life, which ensures you stay silent and powered throughout long hauls.
The Technics Reference Class Hi-Fi edges ahead for pure musical fidelity with its magnetic fluid drivers and Dolby Atmos head tracking, offering a more detailed and spatial soundstage for critical listening.
With the OPPO Enco X3s, you likely won't need to charge them daily, thanks to the 45-hour total battery life. The Technics requires recharging sooner, with only 10 hours of playback per charge.
Yes, the OPPO Enco X3s is the better choice for active use due to its IP55 waterproof and dust-resistant rating, which protects against sweat and rain better than the standard design of the Technics.
