Use Google Slides to push out your assignments via your LMS. Give each student their own copy to work in, or, if you prefer, you can put all the kids into one deck and they can work with a partner on an individual slide. Google slides is an excellent platform for student projects and portfolios. Check out the Student Work page to see some examples. This is the one tech tool I use the most!
Use pre-made virtual lessons or create your own in Desmos Classroom. This short demo shows some of the features that are available inside the activity builder. Be sure to preview several of the pre-made activities at their site (and you can even copy a particular frame out of a free activity and paste it into one of your own!) When you are ready to dig deeper, check out their getting started page.
Use EdPuzzle to assign video content to your classes. Edpuzzle allows you to use ready-made videos and insert your own questions into the videos to create an interactive experience for students. You choose the videos you want to use or you can create your own content. Edpuzzle can be integrated with your LMS to push video content directly to students. Check out the one minute overview and then watch the 20 minute introduction to learn more!
Explore patterns, algebra, geometry and more using free virtual manipulatives from Polypad. Students can construct their own figures, analyze, tabulate and even make music! This platform offers something for mathematics students of all ages and abilities. This has been called a mathematical playground. Once you have experienced Polypad, you will understand why! Watch this short demo and check out the longer webinar to see many more features in Polypad.
Create virtual tests using Pear Assessments (formerly known as Edulastic). Core features include tech enhanced items, built in equation editors for teachers and students, instant scoring, and the ability to create your own items or pull items from existing item banks. (FREE Practice State Tests from several states are available.) If you upgrade to the premium version, you will gain access to the embedded Desmos graphing calculator, bigger and better item banks, and better monitoring tools. Watch this short overview and the dive into the longer training video to learn more.
GeoGebra provides FREE online resources that include graphing calculator tools , activities, simulations, exercises, lessons, and games. Recently, they have added the ability to create a classroom on any resource to assign the activity to your students. Students can explore and get instant feedback as they practice skills or explore concepts. Many of the activities have multiple representations. Students can tinker with the math to make sense of the concepts they are learning. You can "Flip the Script" and let students play with new problem types before instruction to make your lessons more interactive and engaging.
Instead of static worksheets, use GeoGebra to give each student their own problem sets. As they work through practice problem the applets display CORRECT, so that student know when they are successful and can move onto another practice problem or activity. Here are two activities I have incorporated into lessons regularly.
Graspable Math is a FREE online tool that allows students to simplify expressions, solve equations, evaluate functions, solve systems, write equations, and more! Students can explore on their own or complete pre-made activities to learn and apply algebraic properties. Want to help students develop fluency faster? Graspable math will only allow 'legal' moves, so students get instant feedback as they are completing tasks. Students no longer have to wait for a teacher to explain or check their work to proceed because the software confirms or redirects them as they manipulate expressions. As students practice until they 'get it right' they begin to discover for themselves how to isolate a variable or simplify an expression before being taught directly how to apply properties. This tool is designed for #DistanceLearning and is a great way for students to show their work digitally in online assignments (insert photos of Graspable Math work in docs, slides, drawings, etc...)
There are dozens of tutorial videos to help you learn the gestures in the software. Here are three to get you started.
Desmos is a FREE online graphing calculator that will allow your students to explore functions, identify key features, evaluate, analyze and learn very complex concepts without having to spend a lot of time plotting points, calculating and labeling with pencil and paper. This tool is designed for #DistanceLearning and is a great way for you to demonstrate online for and with students. This is a future ready application that you and your students will thoroughly enjoy working with! Explore Desmos, and when you are ready for the next step, jump into the activity builder site at https://teacher.desmos.com
@Desmos has a very active twitter account with a loyal following, so be sure to follow to learn more about what is possible with this awesome tool.
