Assigning is a great option in a Zoom or flipped class.
Major benefits:

- Kahoot!s available for most grammar topics, and sometimes vocabulary. The quizbank is huge; no need to reinvent the wheel.
- If you can't find a topic, or want something bespoke for your class, write your own multiple choice Kahoot!.
- Reports allow you to track student progress or count a "game" as an assessment (the free reports are spreadsheet only).
- Can be used to make self-grading multiple-choice tests or quizzes
- The app will dog students for days, causing them to answer questions they missed on the first round
- Nearly universally loved by students. (If you make this part of your class it will be clamored for).
- Literacy benefits: colors and shapes allow for many levels of participation.
- Other formats, such as "jumble" allow for varied play (but are mostly reserved for paying teachers).
Drawbacks:

- The unseemly nexus of unorthodox branding, odd punctuation, overuse of the exclamation point and irregular plurals results in this: Kahoot!s are fun.
- The pay version has features you cannot even edit on the free version; and trying to do so will result in wasted time.
- The marketing can be annoying, but I am sure the pay version is worth it. Lucky you if you can get your institution to shell out.
- Students who are not at the top of the pack can sometimes be demoralized or lose interest...
