Bharat OS mentioned in Our History (refrenced at November 2025 Date)
Additonal Steps and Instructions (must follow)
Here's the complete guide for Bharat OS 2.0 (IndiaOS) — India's first vibecoded operating system! Here's a quick summary of what's in the interactive guide above:
What it is: IndiaOS is a free, open-source Linux-based OS built to fight digital inequality. It's designed to run fast on old hardware (even 2GB RAM machines), work fully offline, and support 25+ languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, and more.
How to download: Head to indiaos.org/download or clone from github.com/indiaos/indiaos. The ISO file is free under GPL v3.
Installation by platform:
Windows — Use Rufus (free tool) to flash the ISO to a USB drive, then boot from it. You can dual-boot alongside Windows or do a full install.
macOS (Intel) — Use the dd command in Terminal to flash to USB, then hold Option key on restart to boot from it.
macOS (M1/M2/M3) — Native boot isn't supported yet; use the free UTM app to run it as a virtual machine.
Linux — Use dd to flash the ISO and boot from USB, or install QEMU/virt-manager for a virtual machine.
Old laptops & other devices — This is actually IndiaOS's sweet spot. It's designed to breathe life into 2010–2015 era machines with as little as 2GB RAM.
Any platform (easiest) — Install VirtualBox (free, works on Windows/Mac/Linux) and run IndiaOS as a virtual machine — no risk to your existing system.
Two modes on first boot: Simple Mode (big icons, beginner-friendly — great for seniors and students) and Pro Mode (full GNOME desktop with terminal, tiling, developer tools).
Current status: The project is in active development with a 3-month roadmap — Alpha → Beta → Stable public release. Check the GitHub for the latest ISO builds.
