A Comparison Between Apple iPhone And Samsung Galaxy Phones

Both Apple and Samsung are the leaders of the smartphone industry. However, you may wonder which company is better. The most popular options when it comes to buying a high-end smartphone are the Apple iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy phone.

Both these phones compete with each other based on their latest features, camera tech, designs, and overall performance. The high-end phones from both these companies may cost higher than $1000. Several variations of the flagship from both these companies are launched in the market.

In this article, we will briefly compare different features of both the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phones.

Phone design

Apple has been using a plastic back for iPhones since 2007. Newer models, however, come with a sleeker glass back and stainless steel frame. One of the most prominent features of the newer iPhones is the notch on the top of the front screen. This notch is in place to house the front cam and other sensors.

Samsung has also started using premium materials in its newer Galaxy phones. The company started using the dual-edge display for the first time in its S6 Edge phone, which was launched in 2015. This range of phones has evolved significantly in terms of design. The screen size has increased and bezels have become thinner. The front cam on Galaxy phones is in the form of a punch-hole in the middle or side of the screen.

Screen size and resolution

The iPhone 12 series consists of three models: the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have a 6.1-inch display and a screen resolution of 1,170 x 2,532 pixels. The iPhone 12 Pro Max comes with a larger 6.7-inch screen and a screen resolution of 1,284 x 2,778 pixels.

Samsung has taken a quite different approach. Its standard Galaxy S21 comes with a 6.2-inch display with a screen resolution of 1x080 x 2,400. The S21 Plus comes with a larger 6.6-inch display and the same screen resolution as the standard S21. The S21 Ultra comes with a 6.8-inch display and a screen resolution of 1,440 x 3,200 pixels.

The newest iPhones use a Super Retina XDR OLED display, while the Samsung’s latest Galaxy phones use Dynamic AMOLED displays.

Camera

The camera system is the most preferred feature in modern high-end phones. Both Apple and Samsung have done quite well in ensuring an impressive camera quality for their phones.

Apple uses multiple lenses, including a 12MP wide-angle lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 12MP telephoto lens, and a time-of-flight sensor. The Telephoto lens and TOF sensor are not present in the standard iPhone 12 model. All iPhone models have a high-quality front camera.

Samsung uses three lenses on its standard Galaxy S21. These lenses include a 12MP wide-angle sensor, a 64MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide shooter. This same arrangement is used in the Pro model too. The Ultra model, however, gets a 108MP wide-angle lens, a 10MP periscope lens, a 10MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens.

From the perspective of photo and video quality, both phones do quite well. The iPhone, however, is a better overall performer due to the AI-based camera software working in the backend.

Performance

The Galaxy S21 series come with the Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is the fastest processor chip in the Android world. It performs 25% faster compared to its predecessor. The iPhone 12 series is equipped with the A14 Bionic chipset, which is even faster than the Snapdragon 888 chipset. It means that the A14 is the fastest processor chipset in the smartphone industry. While there is a difference between the A14 and Snapdragon 888 on paper, an average smartphone user may not realize it.
