Team Up for Literacy

Team Up for Literacy is an extension of Team Up’s mission to help local kids build confidence and reach their potential, both on and off the field.

Through this program, students will have opportunities to strengthen their reading skills in a positive, encouraging environment while developing something just as important...a genuine love of reading.

Our goal is to connect younger students with supportive volunteers and student mentors for regular reading practice, conversation and encouragement. Readers will be able to read aloud, work through challenging words and talk about the stories they are discovering without the pressure of grades or testing.

We believe reading is a skill, but loving to read is a gift.

By bringing together students, families, schools, volunteers and community partners, Team Up for Literacy hopes to help children become more confident readers!

Strong reading skills will carry them far beyond the classroom. Reading helps children understand directions, communicate clearly, solve problems, learn independently and navigate everyday life with confidence. As they grow, those skills become important in nearly every path they may choose, from high school and college to trade programs, careers and managing day-to-day responsibilities.

Helping a child become a stronger reader is not jjust about improving a grade. It is about giving them a foundation they can carry with them for the rest of their life!
