Team TESLA Robotics is attributed to Genesee Early College (GEC). GEC is an intensive five-year early college high school program. We are located on the campus of the University of Michigan-Flint, and our robotics team is based out of the First Robotics Community Center at Kettering University. Our students are some of the highest academic achievers and our goal is to give them a space to continue to grow, learn, and become better students.
During each competition season (January- April), our students are given six weeks to build a 115-lb robot. We do everything from creating CAD blueprints, to programming, to building mechanisms, and even merch design. After building, they participate in 2-3 competitions, each lasting two and a half days. When it's not the competitive season, our students are connecting with the community, attending robotics camps, and fundraising for next season. For example, this year our team volunteered with the North End Soup Kitchen, Toys for Tots, Salvation Army bell ringing, making and donating blankets to Charlie's Forever Farm and making Christmas cards for a local nursing home. We will continue to participate in community outreach opportunities this year with several service projects planned for the year.
