Factor in the light intensity from a certain angles to the LDR sensor.
Replacing the Infrared distance sensor to an ultrasonic version.
Install a reflector in front of the distance sensor to sense an incoming object from multiple angles.
Factor in the surrounding light intensity in both daylight and night time.
Install more Infrared sensors on blind spots of vehicle.
