Alaska Division Officials Pipeline
Thank you to Paul Jastrow, USANS US Officials Sub Committee Chairman, for training and developing the Alaska Division officials pipeline
Scoring
Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined is a sport with a long and rich international history. Learning how the sport works and athletes are scored takes time and experience. Jumping athletes are scored based on a combination of distance and technique. During competitions a group of officials each judge technique leading to a combined technique score which is then paired with distances.
Becoming a ski jumping official takes place through progressive training and experience. To learn to judge technique each of the Alaska Division pipeline officials has dedicated hours to training sessions, studying, and gaining experience judging. Athletes are judged on technique against a set of point deduction criteria. During some competitions video is taken to allow for after event review and feedback for the judges to continue to learn from and advance judging skills.
