The China national men's basketball team was founded in 1917 and joined the International Basketball Federation in 1936. It was withdrawn for political reasons in 1958 and reinstated in 1974 in the name of the People's Republic of China . In 1978, the Chinese team entered the World Men's Basketball Championship for the first time and won the eighth place in 1994. The men’s basketball game in the 1996, 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games ranked eighth. Since 1975, the Chinese team has participated in the Asian Men's Basketball Championships and won 16 championships in the 21st Asian Championships, including two consecutive five consecutive championships and one four consecutive championships. The Chinese men's basketball team participated in the Asian Games men's basketball game 12 times in total, including 8 gold medals.
China's two special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macau, and Taiwan Province each have an international basketball team and are members of the FIBA and the Asian Basketball Association. They participate in international competitions in the names of Hong Kong , China, Macau and China Taipei. On December 20, 2018, the Chinese men's basketball team was elected as the top ten popular language of culture, sports and entertainment in 2018. On September 2, 2019, in the second group match of the World Cup, the Chinese men's basketball team defeated the Polish team 76-79. On the evening of September 6, 2019, Beijing time, in the first round of the M19 basketball World Cup qualifying match, the Chinese men's basketball team faced the Korean men's basketball team. In the end, the Chinese team beat the South Korean team 77-73. On September 8, in the M19 basketball World Cup qualifying match, the Chinese men's basketball team lost 73-86 to Nigeria. In September, the Chinese men's basketball team won the 24th place in the 2019 basketball World Cup.
