This new database launched on 1st July 2023, has an extensive list of picture books suitable for students in upper primary / lower secondary levels.
What is the Picture Books for Older Readers Database?
This extensive Picture Books for Older Readers Database enables teachers, parents, librarians and book sellers to search for picture books related to themes, topics or issues suitable for older students.
**NOTE**
The picture books included in this database may contain issues that are complex and require teachers and parents to review the detailed notes accompanying each book prior to use with younger readers.
How can the Picture Books for Older Readers Database support teachers?
This database enables teachers to search for quality picture books, (including Australian Curriculum topics, themes and key events) to assist with unpacking key content and themes to support their teaching.
The addition of 'Advanced Filter Options' teachers have the option to dive deep into the power of a database (click 'more') to locate the key themes of the picture books currently in the database to best match the user requirements.
The power of this database is the extensive research that has gone into locating links such as teacher notes, resources and other learning ideas to support the text and / or theme of the text.
How else can the picture books in the database be viewed?
Jacket View vs List View
There are 2 options to view all the current picture books within the database.
One option is via 'Jackets' whereby users can view the covers of the different picture books available.
The other is through the 'List' view which gives users an alphabetised list of the resources at a glance.
Either 'Jacket' or 'List' view have embedded links to take the user directly to the picture book and accompanied annotations and teaching resources

Teachers Librarians, this is an outstanding curated resource to promote and share with upper primary / secondary departments as they plan their curriculum units for the term.
