Custom GPTs
Casimiro Juanes
In this session, we will look at the opportunities that Generative AI offers to give more value to teachers and students with the help of personalized digital assistants (custom GPTs). Some of the opportunities we'll look at include:
1. Review and improvement of the contents prior to the sessions,
2. Focus the value of our discussions and forums,
3. Prepare stories that help to have better personalized experiences with students.
4. Improve our ability to correct and give feedback to students. We will also compare the proposal of existing market solutions with the use of IE's internal solutions.
This session will focus on the topics directly explored by the teacher, but if there are specific topics that the audience expects to explore, please answer this survey beforehand to better organize your time. It is expected that the audience already understands the opportunities of Generative AI. As a preparation for this course, we recommend Gen AI for everyone by Andrew Ng.
Enhancing Academic Presentations with Generative AI
Iñigo Cavestany
In the realm of education, the ability to deliver compelling presentations is invaluable. This 80-minute workshop introduces faculty members to the transformative power of generative AI in creating engaging and interactive presentations. Participants will explore how AI can elevate their teaching materials by automating design elements, enhancing content quality, and personalizing learning experiences. Through practical exercises, faculty will learn to harness AI to generate dynamic visual aids, enrich text content, and create tailored learning paths that resonate with diverse student groups. This workshop is ideal for educators looking to leverage generative AI to captivate their students, improve content retention, and foster a more interactive classroom environment.
Tapping into the Power of AI Collaboration in the Creative Process
Ruxandra Iancu
The "AI Co-teaching Accelerator: Tapping into the Power of AI Collaboration in the Creative Process," is a dynamic workshop designed for university professors and program coordinators eager to integrate artificial intelligence into their teaching methodologies. In this 80-minute session, we will explore the transformative potential of AI as a co-teacher in the classroom.
The workshop will kick off with a fast-paced interactive introduction, where I will share insights from my own experiences with AI in education, and each participant will briefly introduce themselves and their perspective on AI in their disciplines. This will set the stage for an engaging series of rapid response polls, allowing us to gauge current uses, understandings, and sentiments about AI among attendees.
We will then dive into three compelling case studies from my teaching practice, illustrating diverse applications of AI in course design and student interaction. Each case will prompt small group discussions, utilizing Miro boards to brainstorm and capture actionable insights on ethical implications, student engagement, and practical challenges.
The session will conclude with a focused brainstorming segment, where participants will discuss potential AI implementations in their curricula, guided by prepared descriptions of their courses and assignments. This collaborative environment aims to not only share knowledge but also to spark innovative ideas for the future of education. Join us to shape how AI can enhance your teaching and enrich your students' learning experiences.
Assignments in AI Era: Design and Rubrics
Dae-Jin Lee
This workshop explores the integration of AI in designing assignments and developing rubrics to enhance teaching and learning. Participants will learn how AI tools can assist in creating dynamic and effective assignments tailored to diverse student needs and learning styles. The workshop will delve into the ways AI can analyze large datasets to refine rubrics, ensuring they are aligned with educational outcomes and are adaptable to various teaching contexts.
The session will introduce practical AI applications that automate feedback processes, providing real-time, actionable insights to educators. This not only improves the consistency and fairness in grading but also empowers educators to focus more on pedagogical strategies rather than administrative tasks. By leveraging AI, educators can ensure that rubrics are applied uniformly across different classes and settings, reducing biases and enhancing the educational experience.
The workshop will also feature interactive segments where participants can engage with AI tools to simulate the design of assignments and the application of rubrics. This hands-on approach will help attendees appreciate the potential of AI in transforming educational assessment and feedback mechanisms. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how AI can be a transformative ally in curriculum design and assessment strategies.
Competencies in AI Era: Critical Thinking
Brendan Anglin
Between the writing of this description of the session and you reading it, AI will have advanced to another level again. So, we will not be looking at all of the new iterations of Chat GPT but rather how to think about applying it in a support therapy group format. AI in the classroom is a real opportunity, not in terms only of what it can do, but also by making us, the professors, critically think about what we are doing in the classroom (and why) to keep our content relevant in the years to come.
This session builds on and develops the ideas from the other courses provided at IE to ensure that you feel more comfortable with the challenges we are currently facing as educators. For those of us who are worried about AI, remember, we are educators, and all the best educators are perpetual students. If you can teach law, finance, international relations, humanities or even something as simple as advanced mathematics, then "Critical Thinking and GenAI in the classroom" will be as easy as asking ChatGPT to look at your syllabus and give you ideas for how to make it more exciting to teach.
