THE GERUND

Gerund je glagolski oblik koji ima osobine glagola i imenice. Ovdje su neki primjeri na hrvatskom jeziku:

trčati - glagol, trčanje - gerund

spavati - glagol , spavanje - gerund

pričati - glagol, pričanje - gerund

U engleskom gerund dobijemo tako da glagolu dodamo nastavak ING.

verb + -ing

run - running

sleep - sleeping

talk - talking

Kada koristimo gerund? PRAVILA:

• iza glagola kao što su: love, like, hate, enjoy, adore, don't like, try, go

Dino likes playing football.

Vito enjoys making films.

• iza strukture pridjev + prijedlog (adjective + preposition) : tired of, interested in, crazy about, fond of, keen on, good at, bad at, fed up with, bored with, afraid of

Tara is good at drawing.

Jana is crazy about dancing.

• iza strukture glagol + prijedlog (verb + preposition): dream of, think of, be into, worry about

She is dreaming of becoming a teacher one day.

• iza nekih izraza, npr. can't stand, don't mind

I can't stand waiting in queues.
