Competency-based learning refers to systems of instruction, assessment, grading, and academic reporting that are based on students demonstrating that they have learned the knowledge and skills they are expected to learn as they progress through their education. In public schools, competency-based systems use state learning standards to determine academic expectations and define “competency” or “proficiency” in a given course, subject area, or grade level (although other sets of standards may also be used, including standards developed by districts and schools or by subject-area organizations). The general goal of competency-based learning is to ensure that students are acquiring the knowledge and skills that are deemed to be essential to success.
Ensuring gender equality, preventing gender violence, respecting diversity and ensuring an inclusive and non-sexist education.
This is directly linked to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, of which Spain is a proud member. Sustainable goals number 4 and 5 outline inclusive, quality education and gender equality. These are important goals for all nations of the world, and the best place to start these initiatives is in school.
Education must be universal and guarantee equity among students, promoting equality between people and the recognition of sexual and gender, ethnic and origin diversity of abilities or other personal and socio-economic situations, from respect for one's own identity and the cultural contributions from other countries, full participation and educational success.
The positive school atmosphere is a protective factor that promotes the emotional well-being of the entire educational community and the establishment of links that foster a sense of belonging, identification with the group, recognition of difference, fairness, emotional security and personal relationships positive, and peaceful coexistence.
“Education for democratic citizenship” means education, training, dissemination, information, practices and activities which aim, by equipping learners with knowledge, skills and understanding and moulding their attitudes and behaviour, to empower them to exercise and defend their democratic rights and responsibilities in society, to value diversity and to play an active part in democratic life, with a view to the promotion and protection of democracy and the rule of law.
Language is at the center of the learning process, as it is the instrument of access to information and the construction of knowledge. The learning of languages is considered from a competence perspective, through methodological approaches focused on the integrated learning of languages and of these with the contents, (always having the Catalan language, and Aranese in the Aran, as a center of gravity and reference language within the framework of school hours. In order to promote the habit of reading, specific time must be dedicated to reading in all areas, subjects or areas.
The foreign language has no specific comments but as a teachers we must ensure meaningful and quality learning taking into account the base of the vehicular language of the school and the student in order not to interfere with certain learnings or complement them.
