With six years of experience across private and group settings, I have had the immense privilege of shaping young minds through mathematics.
I currently specialise in Lower Secondary Mathematics, Upper Secondary Elementary (E-Math), and Additional Mathematics (A-Math).
I am excitingly expanding my repertoire to include H2 Mathematics!
Beyond the classroom, I also actively design curriculum materials for both my personal classes and my department.
I graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a Bachelor of Science (with Honours / Distinction) in Mathematical Sciences, where I explored the synergies between pure, applied and statistical mathematics.
Bridging academia and industry, I interned at AsiaOne as a Data Science Apprentice. There, I honed both my analytical mindset and technical skills in Python, prototyping mathematical models to analyze media-consumer interactions using variables like click-through rates and view duration.
My journey with mathematics hasn't been a straight line—and that is my greatest asset as an educator. I was once an H3 Mathematics student who failed. I also faced a major setback earlier in my journey, failing my Secondary 2 Mid-Year Math exam.
These experiences taught me exactly what it feels like to struggle with foreign, complex concepts. Because I had to learn how to break down daunting topics into bite-sized, digestible pieces to excel in my university-level modules, I can now do the same for my students. I want them to know that setback is not final, and that perseverance breeds mastery.
To me, math is not just about memorizing formulas; it is about cultivating an analytical mind. Mathematics is omnipresent and foundational to the world around us:
In Science: Psychological and medical studies rely heavily on statistics to validate discoveries that improve our quality of life.
In Strategy: Military personnel require sharp analytical thinking to ensure strategic mission success.
In Business: A restaurant service crew uses predictive estimation of turnover rates to maximize daily revenue.
No matter how abstract it may seem, math is everywhere. My mission is to teach students not just how to solve a problem, but to understand why the problem matters and how to independently design the framework to solve it.
My teaching pedagogy is built on a comprehensive, three-step framework: Immersive Delivery, Guided Modeling, and Active Synthesis. By structuring lessons this way, I seamlessly engage auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners, ensuring that mathematics is accessible to every student.

[ 3. ACTIVE SYNTHESIS ] Differentiated Practice & Review
I break down abstract, daunting topics into bite-sized, digestible components, tailored to individual learning paces:
For Foundation Building: My focus centers on fundamental drills, conceptual clarity, and building confidence.
For Advanced Learners: I pivot toward higher-order thinking, challenging students to extend and apply what they have learned to novel contexts.
At the core of my curriculum is the cultivation of a robust problem-solving mentality. Rather than rote memorization, I equip students with a versatile toolkit of mathematical heuristics:
Reverse Engineering: Teaching students to work backward from a target conclusion, a critical technique for complex topics like Plane Geometry Proofs.
Mathematical Translation: Training students to systematically translate complex English word problems into mathematical expressions and algebraic equations, particularly for Real-World Context questions.
Strategic Tool Optimization: Showing students how to fully leverage their graphing and scientific calculators to relieve cognitive load, allowing them to focus on high-level strategy (e.g., verifying solutions in Trigonometry).
Critical Validation: Instilling the habit of questioning the validity of an answer by cross-checking it against predefined constraints, essential for topics like Functional Equations.
Through this structured approach, my students don't just learn how to pass an exam; they develop an analytical, structured mindset that serves them for life.
About (the real) Me.
Outside of teaching, I am driven by a deep curiosity to explore both digital worlds and the great outdoors. My hobbies reflect my belief in lifelong learning, grit, and the power of an analytical mind.
While many view gaming as pure entertainment, it has subtly taught me invaluable real-life skills. My main playground is Minecraft, where I specialize in building complex automated resource farms.
The Process: It requires meticulous architectural planning, resource management, and strategic optimization to maximize efficiency while minimizing labor.
The Mindset: Designing these systems demands the exact same logical, analytical mindset as a software developer writing clean code to solve a complex problem.
I am an avid mountain climber and highly physically active. I love pushing my physical and mental boundaries, and my proudest summits to date include Mount Kinabalu and Poon Hill in the Himalayan Range.
For me, mountaineering is a powerful reminder that age and perceived limits are never excuses to stop exploring. I am always looking for the next peak to conquer to keep that spirit of resilience alive.
I love understanding how things work from the inside out, which draws me to various hands-on technical projects:
PC Building: I enjoy building and disassembling computers from scratch, researching components to engineer high-performance custom PCs.
Coding & Automation: Building on my data science background, I write programs to automate tedious processes. Whether it’s streamlining my curriculum design workflow or solving minor bottlenecks in daily life, I love using code to create practical, real-world solutions.
What I do.
I teach mathematics at Overmugged! These are what I occasionally do in my day to day!
Beyond teaching, I am deeply involved in shaping the academic strategy at Overmugged. Working closely alongside my Subject Head, I champion the development of curriculum materials, with a primary focus on Lower Secondary Mathematics (AY2025) and Upper Secondary Additional Mathematics (AY2026). Furthermore, every single resource used in my free workshops and academic events is designed entirely by me from scratch. These are also with the help of AI Generation and occasional use of Python Programming to ease manual tasks.
(Btw, AI ≠ Programming! Just FYI :))
Though free time is a luxury, I am dedicated to supporting the student community online. On my teacher Instagram account, I regularly post unique resources and walk through step-by-step solutions to complex math problems. It is the perfect place to get a taste of my live-class heuristics and systematic problem-solving approach!
Outside of my professional commitments, I prioritize a rigorous daytime fitness routine. As the saying goes, "Health is wealth." I firmly believe that to be an effective, dependable mentor, an educator must keep their physical well-being in check. Staying fit ensures I bring maximum energy, focus, and long-term consistency to my students every single day.
(Speaking from experience because I was sick almost every month in 2025...)
Personal Likes.
Vibes are everything! When I’m not in teacher mode, my personality is a mix of tech geek, foodie, and a few unexpected hyper-fixations. Here is a quick snapshot of who I am behind the desk:
The Palette: I’m deeply drawn to a monochromatic black-and-white gradient aesthetic, usually paired with cool tones like navy blue.
The Wardrobe: A self-proclaimed "basic Adidas guy." I currently own more Adidas shirts than anything else in my closet, though my style preferences are slowly starting to evolve. Recently, I also keep lots of floral collared clothes :)
The Tech Dilemma: I have always been a die-hard Windows PC guy, but I'm secretly getting used to the MacBook life... though a new custom Windows desktop build is definitely happening soon!
My Spotify wrapped is a chaotic masterpiece (English, Chinese, Malay, Thai, Vietnamese, Kpop, Jpop, Russian, Italian, Kazakh, etc). Right now, my rotation is heavily dominated by Vietnamese and Thai Pop, but don’t be surprised if the occasional Vinahouse track starts blasting out of nowhere.
Yes, I am a Rabbit zodiac, and yes, I have a massive, unapologetic collection of Miffy plushies and merchandise at home. If it has a cross for a mouth, I probably own it.
I love exploring Southeast Asia—specifically Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Up next on my radar are Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea, and I'm currently mapping out a future European getaway to my top-tier destinations: Italy, Germany, and the UK.
I don't really care for snacks, but I LOVE dark chocolate (just keep that 100% pure, extreme bitter stuff away from me). When it comes to real meals, here is my food rotation:
The Usuals: Chicken chop, a sharp Arrabbiata Linguine, or local favorites like Hokkien Mee and fried oysters.
The Midnight Comfort: If I’m starving, nothing beats a bowl of instant Maggi soup upgraded with my own homemade fried shallots, garlic, and fresh chili.
On Good Days: You’ll find me in the kitchen pan-searing a Teriyaki Salmon or cooking up a perfect Black Pepper Steak.
Here is my current class schedule for Academic Year 2027 across our branches.
I will be teaching Secondary 1 to JC2
*Students have the privilege of doing online and physical consultations with me if classroom availaibility and time permits.
Do note that there will be periods where classes have to be rescheduled due to events such as Reservist.
For your information, there are 4 Terms in Overmugged.
Term 1: November to January (12 lessons)
Term 2: February to April (12 lessons)
Term 3: May to July (12 lessons)
Term 4: August to October (12 - 16 lessons, depending if you are a Graduating Student or not)
If classes has to be cancelled for any reason, rest assured that the minimum number of classes will be satisfied through means of a reschedule.
Classes that falls on public holiday will not be rescheduled unless majority of students are unable to attend, in which there would be a mutual agreement on a reschedule. Examples of public holidays which will definitely be rescheduled are Chinese New Year. Some others such as Hari Raya or Good Friday will be on a case-to-case basis. Others will typically not be rescheduled.
Students who cannot make it for lessons are entitled to a recording. I will record every lesson and provide lesson recording upon request as long as you are a regular student.
