In a 10-minute voiceover of a slideshow presentation, I will share my experience using Instruction-Checking Questions (hereafter ICQ) in my usual practice and then in the Emergency Remote Teaching context. As Aldao and Calvo (2017) remind us ICQs can be an amazing tool to check if students understand what is expected of them. Unfortunately, ICQs do not seem to be very common practice (Negi, 2016). The novelty of the concept as well as the novelty of the environment partly explain some of the epic failures I experienced when I tried to use ICQs the way I used to online. I will conclude by sharing my renewed approach to ICQs and by inviting the audience to reflect on the topic.
