Hello, my dear teachers! I have been very active these last days of summer revising old resources and updating some of them.

The one I'm going to talk about today is an oldie one. Last year I taught Arts & Crafts in English. Where I'm from, this subject is not taught in Spanish nor Valencian, but in English. So, I knew the level of my students had was limited.

With that in mind, I created a Word List of the most used verbs and objects in an Arts & Crafts lesson. Students write the translation next to each word. Afterwards, I laminate all the lists so they last for the entire school year.

ENGLISH ROUTINES

PRIMARY & INFANT education

Hello teachers! The school year is about to start and I needed to prepare a structure for my students to follow in our EFL (English as a Foreign Language) lessons. So, I came up with this slides for EFL routines.

The black ones are intended for older Primary Education students (from 3rd to 6th grade). It consists on 5 slides:

Welcome to class: there are all the questions written and the links for the possible answers.
What day is today?: different options are offered to students to choose from.
What's the weather like today?: pupils pick one option from the yellow side and one from the red one.
How are you today?: in this slide students choose 2 emotions fromt the ones offered. They can include more if they want to.
What did you do over the weekend?: here students practice the past tense. The irregular verbs have the past tense written underneath.

The white ones, on the other hand, are prepared to be used by Infant Education and younger Primary Education students (from 1st to 2nd grade).

There are links in all the pages. If you press the coloured buttons, they help you browse through the pages. If you click the icons in each page, it plays a video from Youtube about the topic.

Hello: this is the welcome slide. There are links in all the buttons that bring you to each individual slide and, also, there is a link in the HELLO sign that plays a Youtube video for the kids.
Counting students (green button): it can be used to count the number of students in each table group.
The weather (red button).
How are you today? (purple button).
What day is today? (yellow button).

INSTACLASS VERSION

Hello, my dear teachers! Let me introduce you my version of the widely known activity All about me.

With the start of the school year quickly approaching, I have seen this resource all over my Instagram feed. Many many teachers have done their own versions of this worksheet (and I have downloaded them all). Some of them have created an online version, some others the more traditional worksheet, some have drawn intricate boxes and sections, etc.

There is an infinity of possibilities on Instragram right now!

But, over the years, I have come to the conclusion that older primary students may not be drawn towards the "younger" versions of this activity. They find them too childish and boring (they have probably been doing the same activity for the last 4 years) and the excitement of starting classes fade even quicker if they are bored to tears. That is why I have come up with the idea of mixing what is trendy right now (Instagram) and an oldie activity that serves its purpose (getting to know our students).

The worksheet consists on 9 boxes with hagshtags underneath that indicate what students should be filling the box with. They can bring pictures from home of they can draw each answer in the boxes. The final result can be displayed in two different ways:

The worksheets are displayed on a mural as they are, collecting individual information for each student.

Students cut out each box and then paste it to a mural where each hagshtag has a section to display the information. Doing this version we focus on the class as whole and not each individual.

It's up to you what to do with it! You may come up with an alternative idea!

CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD

THE FLIPBOOK

Hello, my dear teachers! It's been a while since I have uploaded a new resource. This school year (20/21) it's being hectic!

Now that Christmas is around the corner, I have created a flipbook to use with my students. I have been seeing different flipbooks all over the Internet, but I needed it simpler than what I have seen around.

I realized my students love to know how holidays are celebrated around the world. This has given me the opportunity to start introducing more cultural aspects in our lessons.

In addition to the flipbook, I have bought a presentation from the amazing Amanda Ross. In it, you can find loads of information about different countries around the world and how Christmas is celebrated in them.

This flipbook will be used on 6th graders in their English as a Foreign Language subject. It has got three pages:

Welcome to...: It's the cover, which has got a world map so that children can colour where the country they have chosen is and its flag.
All about the country: they can list important information about the country, such as population, capital city, landmark, etc.
Christmas celebration: everything related to Christmas, from the food to the traditions, can be written in this page.

This resource can be used by 3rd, 4th and 5th graders as well.

Instead of giving them the information and have them sort out what to choose and how, the information can be worked with the whole class and, later, fill in the flipbook all together.
For the younger students, they can even draw the information or glue pictures they have found about the topic.

SPELLING FOR EFL STUDENTS

Hello, my dear teachers! Today I come here with an updated resource of one I used last year in class. This year, finally, students can sit in groups and interact with each other, and I cannot pass the opportunity of modifying all my resources this school year! As you can see in the picture, it is intended to use with older students (Grade 5, 6 and 7).

This resource is about teaching and practicing spelling numbers for EFL students. Spanish is students find it difficult and tedious to learn the numbers in English. They have been doing so for many years but yet they cannot spell or read any number larger than 10. That's why I have decided to improve a bit the way students practice English numbers.

But first, let me explain you what this document consists of and how I use it.

The first thing you'll notice when opening the document is that it has got different symbols. Those symbols indicate the interaction (or lack of) of the students when doing the activities.

One single hand indicates INDIVIDUAL WORK.
Two people in a circle indicates PAIR WORK.
Four hands together means GROUP WORK.

It has got 3 ready-to-print worksheets:

Example worksheet: it has got chart with the numbers written on it and another chart with examples of how to write and say numbers in English.
- I use this to introduce the numbers to my students. We go over them and I explain them how to mix them to create larger numbers. Then, I copy some numbers on the board and give them points if they can spell them correctly.

2. Individual worksheet: this has been created to allow students to practice spelling individually.

I have uploaded it to LiveWorksheets (check it out!) so they can use the computer, tablet or the regular worksheet to practice.

3. Pair/Group work worksheet: it includes two activities with different interactions. As I said before, the interaction is signaled by the symbols on top of each chart.

Group work: this consists on filling the chart with numbers and allowing the rest of the group to write the numbers (spelling). Each student has got a column they have to fill with the numbers only. Once the numbers are all written, it's now time to spell them. Each student fill its own worksheet, or they can do it all together (it's up to you). I personally like to print 4 copies (one for each student) so they can pass the different copies along the group and practice more.
Pair work: this one consists on doing the exact opposite of the chart explained above, but in pairs. Students fill in the blue chart with the written form of the number, and they have to write the digits belonging to the words.

Also, don't forget to complement the use of these worksheets with other games in class. I would use The Bingo, as it is one of students' favorite games to play.

PRACTICING SPELLING

BOGGLE GAME FOR FAST LEARNERS

Hello, my dear teachers! I can only talk for myself, but the 1st term has come and left so much faster than I anticipated. It's because of that I come here today with my precious Boggle. If you don't know what Boggle is, I don't know how you have survived this long!

Boggle is a game in which students have to create words using the letters provided. The longer the word, the more points they get. But, it is not that easy...

The letters used should touch each other (although I always start introducing the game without this rule. Students can get frustrated easily if they cannot find a word following this rule).
You can move in any direction you want, but only to letters touching.
You can only use a letter once! (you might want to change this rule if you see students struggle to create words).

What do I use Boggle for in my class?

This school year has been a challenge so far. My classrooms are packed with students (30 students per class). That means a lot of different levels in the same space. Some of my students finish homework and assignments very quickly, while some others do not finish at all. With these characteristics, I had to improvise and create something students will enjoy doing while also learning English.

That's the moment I decided to introduce the Fast Finishers corner. With only a folder and a hook, I set up a place in my classroom where students can find different activities to do when they have finished their homework or assignments of the day. Boggle is one of the activities I have set up, alongside Wordsearch, Practice dictionary and reading comprehension texts.

THE BEST PART IS THAT REQUIRES NO PREP-TIME!

This product has tons of pages for students to use. You just have to print out all the pages and stack them in a basket or folder (as I did). Once this is done, explain to your students what they should do and what they shouldn't do with the worksheets and you have it all ready to go!
