Create a Class
The most important information to fill in when creating a class is Class title and Section. The rest is additional information for you and your students.
Class Settings
You can adjust an class information here
General Section:
Change the class Code if you feel it might be difficult for students to copy
Stream settings allows you to determine how you want the stream to work
Classwork on the Stream provides you the option of having class assignments post on the stream or to not have them post. (The stream can become very messy and confusing when everything posts to it)
Guardian Summaries are great if guardians are connected to your Google Classroom
Create an Announcement
Announcements are just that, quick messages to students or quick links, documents or videos you want them to look at. Announcements can also be leveraged for "blog" like work.
Create an Assignment
Title the assignment, add directions if needed, you can attach a file from drive, add a link or a YouTube video. You can have multiple attachments to an assignment. You can even create a resources right in the assignment.
Select 1 class or multiple classes to assign it to, set a due date, point value.
The Topic is a way to organize the students assignments, I like to think of Topics as the dividers in a 3 ring binder.
Schedule an Assignment to Multiple Classes

People Tab
Invite a Co-Teacher
You can invite Students via email or have them use the join code to join your class. The join code can also be found on the Stream page header at the top.
Enable the Guardian Summaries Feature
To help communicate with the student guardians about your class enable the guardian summaries that Classroom automatically generates and sends for you.
Email Student &/or Guardian Student Progress Report
Want a quick and easy way to share an assignment progress report with the student and/or their guardian. Check this hidden feature out in Google Classroom.
Import Google Keep Work into Google Classroom
Students can complete work in Google Keep, then export the image and add it to their assignment in Google Classroom
Google Meet Integrates with Google Classroom
It is now easier than ever for Google Classroom Teachers to share a link for a Google Meet with students. Check it out in this video!
Create a Custom Header
You can personalize your header in Google Classroom with a custom header. It is also a good way to direct students to the "Classwork" page where you can keep everything organized! Check out a great tutorial here from Shake Up Learning with Kasey Bell. There is also this tutorial from Alice Keeler!
