I'm Meilani Cano. I've been inspired by my love of learning, as well as by many teachers in my life, to look into the career of teaching. I'm in 11th grade and some day hope to teach, but probably not in such a public setting as the average grade school teacher. I've huge goals of traveling and ministering, while both will be greatly influenced with teaching. I've so many opportunities over the last five years to teach in a variety of places and styles. Oftentimes, this has been in the churches I have attended, and with mixed age groups. Being a Teacher Cadet was my first opportunity in a public school classroom.
I had the pleasure working with a wonderful lady named Janelle Howell. She's been teaching for more than a decade has taught a variety of grades of 1st-5th grade. She is currently in Pioneer Ridge Elementary and teaching 3rd grade, (she believe Third grade is the best middle ground because they are still cute, but also a level where she gets to teach them the concepts she loves the most). Mrs. Howell loves working with students and is a huge fan of the Denver Bronco NFL team, as well as Disney, which are both expressed in her classroom decorations. On top of that, her walls are entirely covered with cute posters which were mostly created to be used by the students as resources.
Mrs. Howell provided me with many opportunities to work with the students in her classroom at any time that I showed up. This was with the math curriculum and math intervention work, or the Lexia English and language lessons designed for specific students based on their levels, or even with in-class work. She was so supportive of me, and always encouraging. Her students are all lucky to have had her.
