My teaching philosophy revolves around two very simple points: everyone gets what they need, and relationships foster effective learning. As a Special Education Teacher, my students often come to me needing much more than academic support. Furthermore, since I teach preschool, my students often come to me having no prior school experience. They rely on me to help them navigate, understand, and interact with the world around them. Because of this, students need to be able to trust me as their teacher and for that to be successful, a relationship must be cultivated!
An important step in building that relationship and trust is providing the students with equity. In doing this, I am always cognizant of not confusing equality with equity; students do not all need to be treated the same, they need to each get what they need to be equally successful. As a teacher, this means I must be able to differentiate, scaffold, modify, and accommodate effectively to help my students reach their full potential and be as successful as possible.
