Tigray Disaster Relief Fund Condemns Assault on Peaceful Demonstrators, Calls for Accountability and Reform

[USA, September 08,2023] - The Tigray Disaster Relief Fund (TDRF) strongly denounces the recent assaults on peaceful demonstrators in  Mekelle, Tigray  on September 7, 2023. These actions are deeply troubling, particularly when Tigrayan and allies globally are tirelessly working to extend the ICHREE mandate and secure accountability for the atrocities committed in communities across Tigray. 

Acts of prohibition and violence against peaceful protesters are not solutions to any of the challenges we face, even when authorities express legitimate security concerns. Instead, these actions underscore the pressing need for a transformation in our political culture and the establishment of a professional and responsible police force in Tigray.

We call upon the Tigrayan authorities to exhibit restraint and protect the basic human rights of all civilians, in every setting! We also call on the authorities to release all individuals unlawfully detained, grant access to medical care for all that sustained injuries and thoroughly investigate the matter and bring perpetrators to justice. It is essential that we uphold the principles of democracy and respect for human rights, even in times of disagreement.

The Tigray Disaster Relief Fund remains committed to its mission of providing assistance and support to the people of Tigray during these challenging times. We urge all parties involved to prioritize dialogue, peaceful resolution, and respect for the rights of every Tigrayan citizen.

ዝምልከቶም ኣካላት ፀጥታ ስግኣታት ዋላ ይሃለዉዎም፣ ኣብ ልዕሊ ተሳተፍቲ ሰላማዊ ሰልፊ ዝውሰዱ ክልከላታትን ናይ ሓይሊ ስጉምቲታትን ንዘጋጥሙና ዘለው ፈተናታት መፍትሒ ክኾኑ ኣይክእሉን። እዞም ዘይግቡእ ተግባራት ኣድላይነት ምምዕባል ፖለቲካዊ ባህልናን፣ ህንፀት ሙያዊ ብቕዓት ዘለዎን ሓላፍነት ዝወስድን ሓይሊ ፀጥታን ዘመላኽቱ እዮም።

ኣብ ትግራይ ዝርከቡ ዝምልከቶም ኣካላት ካብዞም ዘይግቡእ ስጉምቲታት ክቑጠቡን ኣብ ምኽባር ሰብኣዊ መሰላት ክግደሱን ፃውዒትና ነቕርብ። ብዘይሕጋዊ መንገዲ ዝተኣሰሩ ወገናት ኩሎም ንክፍትሑ፣ ሕክምና ዘድልዮም ወገናት እውን ግቡእ ሕክምና ክረኽቡ፣ ምፅራይ ተገይሩ በደል ዝፈፀሙ ሓይልታት ፀጥታ ናብ ፍትሒ ክቐርቡ ንሓትት! ኣፈላላያት ቕቡል ጌርካ መትከላት ዲሞክራሲን ሰብኣዊ መሰልን ምርግጋፅ ወሳኒ እዩ።
