Transcription and Disease Laboratory was established in the year 2000 at the Molecular Biology and Genetics Unit, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, India. The major focus of the laboratory is to understand the mechanism of chromatin dynamics, which is responsible for the regulation of gene expression, with special emphasis on transcription. One of the important themes of the laboratory is the elucidation of the epigenetic language that regulates transcriptional outcomes in physiological and pathophysiological states such as cancer, AIDS and diabetes. The group is also actively involved in the identification of small-molecule modulators of chromatin-modifying enzymes from natural sources through chemical biology approaches. Since these molecules have tremendous potential to be used in epigenetic therapy, strategies for the delivery of these synthesised and derivatised molecules in cell lines, stem cells, and animal models are being investigated using different nanoparticles conjugated with the small molecule modulators.
