Liège, known as the "Cité Ardente" (fervent city), is the largest municipality in Wallonia, the french speaking region of Belgium. Known for its world-famous Liège waffles and peket (a kind of schnapps), the city is well located in a 5 country border between Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, making it a vibrant international hub. Arriving to Liège can easily be done via its main train station, the Gare des Guillemins, via international trains (there are daily trains arriving from Paris, Frankfurt, Maastricht, Luxembourg and many others) or through its many daily connections to Brussels Airport or Brussels South Charleroi Airport. The national trainline is SNCB/NMBS (https://www.belgiantrain.be/en).
The school will be held in the Salle Pousseur, in the University's Opera complex in downtown Liège (see map below). The building is easily reachable by bus (or the brand new tram from mid April!). To check the timetables use the local transpotation in Wallonia (https://www.letec.be - they also have a phone app through which you can buy tickets online, validated at travel time by scanning a QR code on the bus).
Preferential bookings will be reserved for the conference at the IBIS Opéra hotel, which is in the same building as the venue. Both twin (cheaper) or single rooms will be available, and they can pair you with other attendees if needed. After registration, a specific email will be sent with instructions for reservation. Many other possibilities exist for accommodation in downtown Liège (Pentahotel, IBIS Styles Guillemins, Yust Hostel).
