The Department of Mathematics at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and outreach. The department offers undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs in Pure and Applied Mathematics and, in collaboration with ICTP, Italy, offers a fully funded international master’s program in mathematics. Courses in the IMM program are co-taught by LUMS and international faculty.
LUMS has a strong tradition of mathematics outreach and research collaboration. The John Conway Spirited Seminar Series connects local and international researchers, and the LUMS Math Circles program engages school students to foster mathematical thinking. The Department also hosts active research groups in areas including Topological Data Analysis (TDA), with collaborations across Pakistan, making LUMS well-positioned to host international events such as this CIMPA school.
