Recent surges in mental health issues among youth have cast a spotlight on social media and other digital tools as potential culprits. However, the "why" behind the link between social media use and these problems remains elusive. In this toolkit, Dr. Shim offers an overview of research delving into the underlying factors linking social media use and mental health problems, highlighting the factors that render some children and adolescents more susceptible to problematic social media use. Practical classroom activities aimed at empowering adolescents to reap the benefits of social media while minimizing its potential perils are also included.
The toolkit below provides general information on behavior management strategies to implement in classroom settings. It will also cover specific evidence-based interventions that can be utilized at the whole group and individual level.

In this session, presenters will overview the current educational landscape of Artificial Intelligence—including programs like Chat GPT. In a world where students and teachers can receive “instant answers,” what does this mean for teaching and learning? Presenters will talk through and demonstrate ways Chat GPT can be used an innovative instructional tool but also ways to encourage students to use the service ethically.
