WHAT
DanceStep is the only online Dance Student Teacher Education Program in the world.
It is an innovative program that seeks to EDUCATE, ENCOURAGE and EMPOWER students.
WHY
Students learn much more than simply dance within their time in the studio. Dance students learn to be part of a team and a community, to be resilient and tenacious, to enjoy the rewards of delayed gratification and many other important life skills.
For many, the dance studio becomes a second home or the 'Third Place' for many students - that is home, school and then.... the dance studio. We know that the studio is a place where students feel safe, nurtured and encouraged to reach their full potential in all aspects of life. Dance studios are vital parts of a students "village" and have unique opportunities to provide experiences and education that positively impacts the whole child. It is as much a 'preparation for life' as it is a Dance Student Teacher Education Program. where students feel safe, nurtured and encouraged to reach their full potential in all aspects of life.
DanceStep creates an opportunity for dance students to contribute and give back to the community in a positive way. Past students of the DanceStep program have experienced increased levels of confidence and self-esteem, have learnt patience, empathy, communication skills and how to take initiative in different situations.
The inclusion of leadership studies and self-awareness activities seeks to encourage students to take responsibility for themselves and empowers them to take care of others as leaders and role models.
In addition to these valuable skills, students are also educated in subjects that pertain to dance education as detailed below.
HOW
Working in Partnership with Dance Studios, DanceStep provides resources and support to students via their DSCO.
Theory
Students are enrolled in an online Learning Platform which guides them through Theory modules and covers Theory subjects such as Safe Dance, Anatomy, Musicality, Behaviour Management and Teaching Strategies to name just a few.
Practical
DanceStep students are also expected to assist in a practical lesson once per week within their home studio. This in class experience helps to consolidate the theory learning in a very effective way. It is recommended that students assist for 20 hours per level.
Levels
There are currently FOUR STEPS.
All new students commence at LEVEL ONE, and must work their way through the course sequentially. Each Step is a pre-requisite to the other as the information is progressive. Students must complete (and have signed off) 20 hours of Practical Assistant Teaching Hours and complete their Online Theory Module before uploading their workbooks and signing off as complete.
