Mount Fuji is located 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo and is the tallest mountain in Japan. It is one of Japan's cultural icons and it is a common motif in art and photography. The mountain is still considered an active volcano even though it last erupted in 1707.

Mont Blanc is the tallest mountain in the Alps. One of the towns surrounding Mont Blanc is Chamonix in France, which is also where the first Winter Olympics were held. It is said that Mont Blanc is the most fatal mountain in Europe, with an estimate of 100 fatalities a year.

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland and the United Kingdom. The mountain is a popular destination and attracts an estimated 100,000 ascents a year. Fog is present on the summit for almost 80% of the time between November and January.

Mount Kinabalu is in the top 20 most prominent mountains in the world. The mountain is home to over 5,000 types of plants, 326 types of birds and more than 100 types of mammals. Ice particles are a rare sight as they form on the mountain once or twice a year.

The Finsteraarhorn lies on the border between the cantons of Bern and Valais. It is the most elevated, prominent and isolated mountain in the Bernese Alps and the canton of Berne. The mountain is completely surrounded by uninhabited glacial valleys.

Kirkjufell has an elevation of 463 metres and a prominence of 449 metres. It has a unique cylindrical shape and is a hot spot to see northen lights. Popular TV show Game of Thrones also used the mountain as a filming location.

Mount Everest is Earth's highest mountain above sea level at 8,849 metres. The mountain attracts many climbers. Most expeditions to Mount Everest take around two months and climbers start arriving at the mountain's base camps in late March.

Mount Logan is the highest mountain in Canada and the second highest peak in North America. Due to active tectonic uplifting, Mount Logan is still rising in height. Climbers start at 9,000 feet and it takes about three weeks to climb the mountain expedition style.

Fitz Roy is a mountain in Patagonia, on the border between Argentina and Chile. It is part of Los Glaciares National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The months of November to April are the best times to visit the mountain, even though weather can be bad and unpredictable.
