How do I take care of my exterior door?

You need to perform periodic maintenance of your exterior doors including, but not limited to, maintaining the exterior finish or paint of wood products, trimming swollen wood products, and periodic oiling or polishing. Clean your door weekly with a simple solution of a mild dish soap and warm water. Wipe with a clean, smooth rag until no more dirt or dust is evident when you swipe across the surface - allow the door to dry.

Required maintenance, to ensure warranty, varies depending on environmental conditions. If your entries are not protected from sun and moisture, finish life may be approximately one year. Evidence of dulling, a "dry" feeling, raised grain, and minor surface checks are all signs a finish restoration is needed. A whitish cast to the final finish, particularly on doors subject to sun and moisture, is also a sign for finish restoration. Dark streaks starting at the bottom of the panels are a sign moisture is being drawn into the wood.

Replace weather-stripping & sweeps when you see worn weathered look.
