Art Classes Offered

Taylor University Art Department is pleased to offer art classes to Grant County and the surrounding areas from March 1st- May 5th.  A variety of classes eight-week classes will be offered to children ages five through 18 years old.  Different materials and themes will be introduced by Art Department students. Please see the schedule of classes below for this semester's offerings.


Kindergarten-2nd grade: Ages 5-7

Watercolor: Monday 4-5pm Cost: 100.00

Students will be using watercolor pans to experiment and create watercolor paintings.  Subjects may include landscapes, abstractions, or personal choice.

Messy Art: Wednesday 4-5pm Cost: 100.00

During this thematic class students will be using a variety of different materials to create "messy artwork."  Students will be use a variety materials and processes such as painting, drawing, and collage as they explore this interactive theme.

Art Around the World: Thursdays 4:30-5:30pm

During this thematic class students will be using a variety of different materials to learn about art from around the world.  Special attention will be given to Asia.  Students will be use a variety materials and processes such as painting, drawing, and collage as they explore this interactive theme.

3rd-5th grade: Ages 8-10

Handbuilt Ceramics: Tuesdays 5-6pm

Students will be introduced to a variety of hand building techniques.  After firing the works will be finished using a variety of non-traditional surface applications. Students participating should prepare to get dirty!

Painting: Thursday 9-10am Cost: 100.00

Students will be using a variety of paints including watercolor, tempera, and acrylic to experiment and create paintings.  Subjects may include landscapes, abstractions, or personal choice.

Recycled Art: Thursday 3:30-4:30pm

During this thematic class students will be using a variety of different materials to create recycled masterpieces  Students will be use a variety materials and processes such as painting, drawing, and collage as they explore this interactive theme.

6th-8th grade: Ages 11-13


Wheelthrowing: Mondays 5-6pm

Students will be introduced to a variety of wheel throwing techniques.  After firing the works will be finished using a variety of non-traditional surface applications. Students participating should prepare to get dirty!

9th-12th grade: Ages 14-18

Sculpture: Wednesday 5-6pm

Students will create sculpture projects.  Students will use a variety of materials including airdry clay, paper mache, and plaster gauze.

If you are interested in having your child/children participate, please complete the student interest and medical release forms.  The classes are purchased in a nonrefundable eight-week block for 100.00.  This cost includes the materials. In case of sickness or unexpected scheduling challenges one make-up date will be provided by the Taylor Art Tutor.   Payment and these forms must be received before classes can begin on March 4th.
