Throughout my life I've always been interested in technology. I remember back to when I was very little where I'd marvel at cars and other vehicles as they passed by my house. At just six years old, I'd wake up at around seven in the morning just so I could see the garbage truck use its fascinating mechanical contraptions, all to simply take away our trash. When I think back to this era in my life I can't help but smile, I'll never forget the sheer wonder and admiration I had for something as simple as a garbage truck.
As I got older my next fascination became video games. I loved playing them and to think they could potentially become the focus of my job, I was more than ecstatic. I loved the idea that I could create my own worlds and experiences that other people could enjoy. Experiences that could potentially brighten someone's otherwise awful day.
Engineering to me is somewhat the same as coding, just much more broader. While computer science and coding deal primarily with computers and other smaller devices, engineering deals with everything in-between and more. Engineering has the same rewarding feeling as coding, with the bonus that your accomplishments are actually tangible and real. Much like making games, the goal of both of these jobs are to make peoples daily lives much more easier to manage through either entertainment or necessity.
As I've grown up, my ideas about what I want to do for my future have changed significantly. After taking many coding and engineering classes and robotics club earlier in my life, mechanical engineering is currently the career I'm most interested in. Out of all the different types of engineering, mechanical seems to be the most varied. This allows me to learn all there is about engineering instead of focusing on one specific subject.
My plan is to get my Associates degree from a two year community college and to then transfer over to a four year university. The university I hope to transfer to is the University of Maryland (UMD). I've heard amazing things about UMD and I'm very excited for when I'll be able to attend, especially considering I've already completed a lot of the prerequisites for enrolling in the college. I've never had a clearer vision for my future and I'm ready for the challenges that will be thrown my way.
