My name is Taxiarchis Niaouris, I'm called Taki for short by my friends, family and teachers. The introduction on the Home page is just a preface to what I can do and what I love to do. While yes, I can dance, sing and act, and some of those projects or showcases may be uploaded onto this, this website is majorly focused on my endeavours in music.
I am an aspiring Year 12 Composer and Multi-Instrumentalist, who is mostly focused on wind instruments, specifically the flute. I mostly compose music to represent characters or tell stories. I am, for the most part an amateur player of several instruments, I use my experience with different instruments to inform what and how I compose for different instruments, however, I am not able to play every instrument, and for certain instruments, namely cello, violin, and piano, despite being playing them for longer than flute, I am less familiar with.
I eventually would like to have a bass instrument, so that I don't have to rely on a backing track, my poor piano skills, or other musician friends to provide a bassline as my schedule, as of the moment, is busy, and it is hard to make time for meet-ups and practice sessions. While I do have a Contrabass Ocarina, it isn't deep enough for a non-ocarina focused ensemble to provide a strong fundamental, not to mention that it is very quiet and dynamics are more of a professional novelty that even the most experienced Ocarina players use.
Over my life as a musician, I have found inspiration in many forms of music, new and old. The most dominant influence on my composing style has been video game music. Over time this has grown to include baroque composers like Vivaldi and Telemann, romantic and modern composers like Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich and more recent composers like Frank Ticheli, Christopher Larkin, DM Dokuro and Eric W Brown.
The main video games that have influenced my style are Hollow Knight, Sea of Stars, the Mother/Earthbound trilogy and Terraria, specifically the Calamity Mod for Terraria.
I have also found inspiration in different sorts of ensembles, like the flute choir or ensemble, ocarina septet and concert band.
