Missing: a prioritization identifying TRUE needs vs. desires
The public is entitled to see a list of which projects are intended--and their priority/urgency.
Each item should show an estimated cost.
A list should be ranked with the "critical" (a danger or imperative) 1st, then needed, then desired.
Those that are critical could have been addressed in a smaller, more manageable bond that township residents might've been willing to pass. But this huge bond/millage is too hard to swallow in the midst of these difficult economic realities.
Specifics are hidden behind generalities
The specific projects this bond would fund, along with a qualifier indicating what is critical, needed and desirable are not publicly available. Past experience makes us cautious in trusting the school board with a blank check. Remember the 2023 Bond Proposal? That included...
Astro turf & a $600,000 Press Box
600-seat Theater
Over $14,000,000 in Architectural fees
Over $21,000,000 in Construction Management fees...
Over-reliance on consultants & contractors
Consultants, contractors & unions are the REAL beneficiaries of this proposed bond millage. The estimated costs are prepared by them. Decisions are made in a non-public forum, and the lowest bidder is not always being selected. This bond & accompanying millage would be a real boon to their business' bottom line.
This is the 2nd SPECIAL election in 2 years!
Special elections are elections where the cost is borne by whoever is requiring the election to be held. In a General/Mid-Term election, the cost is shared by all parties...?
But in a Special Election, the cost is borne by those asking for it. Our school board decided to put a special bond election on the ballot in May 2023. Because they lost the election, they are liable to pay the entire cost of the election--with YOUR taxpayer funds! Thus, they have had to use school funds to pay an estimated $120,000.
They can't be in truly dire straits if they can afford to spend our tax dollars putting bond proposals on SPECIAL elections that we have ALREADY said that we don't want!
