STARTING FEBRUARY 15 - FREE TAX SERVICES IN LOUDOUN COUNTY - BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
Tax-Aide provides free tax preparation service at established sites, including electronic filing of returns, usually during the period from late January to mid-April each year. There are no upper or lower income or age limits for Tax-Aide assistance and there is no requirement to be an AARP member. Each site is staffed by volunteers who are certified by the IRS. They will prepare any federal return and Virginia state return that falls within the scope of our volunteer training which includes most items on Form 1040.

It is time to begin planning for your AARP assisted tax preparation. Our volunteers are ready to assist you. We have adjusted our process for the protection of you and our volunteers.
In-person document intake
You will meet face-to-face with a Tax-Aide volunteer for up to 15 minutes. Both you and the volunteer must wear masks and you will be separated physically by some form of protective barrier. During the meeting your document packet will be reviewed, scanned into our system, and original documents returned to you. When your tax return is complete, you will be contacted to make another appointment to sign and pick up a paper copy of your return. Tax returns will be filed electronically as in the past.
Both of these options require more upfront work by the taxpayer. Please follow the steps below.
Review the scope list and make sure your return is within the limits (Our scope and Schedule)
Print, review, and sign IRS 14446 (consent to virtually prepare your tax return) (Document Packet)
Print and complete the Intake Questionnaire (Document Packet)
Review checklist to ensure you have all necessary documents (Document Packet)
For in-person document intake, schedule an appointment (Schedule an Appointment)
While preparing your return, you will be contacted by your preparer with questions. We will call the telephone number you provided. If the issue is particularly complex, they may request an internet meeting with you using Google meet.
Virtual or in-person, you can be sure that you will receive the same high level of quality service that you have in the past. We are trying to be as flexible as possible in meeting your tax preparation needs while keeping both you and our volunteers safe.
