Course Contents

Types of fluid machinery; Study of impulse and reaction turbines: Pelton wheel and Kaplan turbine; Study of centrifugal and axial flow machines: pumps, fans, blowers and compressors; Study of reciprocating pumps.

Study of fuels; Thermodynamic system, state, process and cycle; First and Second Laws of thermodynamics; Study of steam generators and steam turbines; Different thermodynamic cycles- Rankine cycle, Carnot cycle, Brayton cycle etc.

Refrigeration and air conditioning: their applications; Study of different refrigeration methods- Vapor compression cycle and vapor absorption cycle; Refrigerants; Study of air conditioning systems with their accessories.

Introduction to internal combustion engines and their cycles; Study of SI engines, CI engines and gas turbines with their accessories.

Gas turbine and its working principles, Different kinds of jet engines, Brayton cycle, Regenerative gas turbine, Gas turbine with intercooling and reheating.
