Hello my name is Tavia Jackson and I'm going to be talking about Sexual Cults/ Sexual Abuse and the psychological damage that these victims go through. It doesn't matter what age group you’re in, at any age you can be sexually abused, from the younger generation to the older generation. In the R Kelly's cult, he sexualized victims who were under age, and he also took advantage of grown women who were weak-minded. Since the ‘Surviving R. Kelly' Documentary, he has been getting more and more of accusations for Sexual misconduct and Child Pornography. Interviewers from the documentary said that, “R Kelly is the person you would like, the talented and loving celebrity that loves his fans. But Robert is the demon, he’s the one who mentally/ sexual abuse younger women and brainwash them into thinking that no one is ever going to love them but him. Since my research project on cults is coming from a psychological standpoint, I would say Robert has been a victim of sexual abuse and Child molestation his self. At the ages of seven through Fourteen, Robert was sexual abused and molested by a family member. According to the article, ‘Psychiatric Impact of Organized and Ritual Child Sexual Abuse’, Schroder states that “Child sexual abuse was rare at one point, and that nowadays it has become a reality (Schroder1). Schrode also mentions that “Sexual child abuse that involves a network of perpetrators acting repeatedly and jointly on multiple victims is called ‘Organized Abuse” (Schrode 1). Some individuals who were once victims become Perpetrators, for an example the R Kelly Situation. They’re many situations like this sexual cult also. Usually in a sexual cult, the leaders are the perpetrators who’s sexually abusing these individuals and making them take on certain practices and beliefs. Mass Media and Media Outlets accused Kelly for running a Cult of women in his home, and Chicago studio. According to the article ‘Risk Factors for Child Sexual Abuse Victimization’, Assink states that “Risk factors, Parental factors, and the Child’s guardianship can lead to the child’s Victimization” (Assink 3). In the Article ‘Family Environment, Personality, and Psychological Symptoms in Adults Sexually Abused as children’, the authors Stokes and McCord mentions that “While in [some] studies indicate that there are many short-term effects associated with sexual abuse” (Stokes, McCord 3). Many mental disorders can be triggered by sexual abuse. In the article ‘Emotion Regulation Is Associated with PTSD and Depression among Female Adolescent Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse’, Chang talks about how PSD, and other stress disorders are related to Sexual Abuse.
