About Tausha
Tausha's education includes being a part of the last 6th grade class to attend Junaluska Elementary, as well as the last 7th grade class to attend Waynesville Junior High. Tausha graduated from Tuscola High School in 1998. Tausha went on to receive an associates in arts from HCC and a Bachelors in Sociology from UNCA.
To be short, Tausha understands Haywood county schools and the learning environment in Western North Carolina.
Tausha has been a youth mentor at the Pigeon Community Multicultural Development Center where she has created a holistic educational curriculum for summer and afterschool programs which serve approximately 800 students and 400 families. Tausha works with families each year, in ways that go above and beyond a common job description. Tausha has built a strong network in the community for the families she serves. Tausha organizes food drives, continuing education opportunities, public health events because she is dedicated to providing a platform to help reduce intergenerational poverty among rural Appalachains. Too often in Tauha's work and advocacy, students would voice concerns over understanding curriculum, learning environments, peer pressure, and sadly nutrition.
Tausha takes her civic duties to heart and has volutnteered with numerous organizations throughout Western North Carolina and the state level including local churches, schools, businesses, and works closely with local law enforcement.
Helping the community is a mountain value
