Tau Beta Pi is the oldest engineering honor society that represents engineers of all disciplines. We were founded at Lehigh University in 1885 by Dr. Edward H. Williams, Jr. , and members occupy the upper eighth of their junior class or upper fifth of their senior class (candidates at the graduate level must be in the upper fifth of the class). Aside from members' high scholastic achievements, all members are active in their college and local communities. Tau Beta Pi has a strong alumni community, with just over 630,000 initiated members.
