The Sun and the Moon are in Love
With the chill of the winter wind and the warmth of the summer air
And each time that the sun and moon rise in the great sky they share
As grass grows in an open field just flowing with the wind
Flowers sprout out of the ground so thrilled it’s warm again
And love, is love when the sun meets the moon with the morning sky
And love, is love when the moon kissed the sun goodnight
Following each River down to the bodies that they feed
To find the food that fruits the growth of plants the planet needs
Kisses from the morning sky breathe life into the earth
While hugs from the moons quiet light gives pulse for rebirth
And love, is love when the oceans waves caress the shore
And love, is love when the shore loves the ocean even more
And even when life wilts away decaying into dirt
The worms and mushrooms thrive that day wanting at it first
Like the way the ocean breathes, filtering through sand
The planet lives through each death across all her land
That leaves us with me and you, small in our own way
Loving more than one could know through life and through decay
And love, is love when you look at me with your sweet smile
And love, is love when your heart fills a hole, so stay awhile
My Books
Within the pages of my books
I meet the fierce and tender looks
Of comrades young and old
I hear the tramp of legions feet
And garments soft, about me sweep
As man walks sure and bold
I feel the rhythmic breath of time
Blow chill and hot in every clime
The universe grows small
As science challenges the past
Religion quietly holds fast
And love speaks through it all
Of war and peace, of love and hate
Of time and thought, both old and late
There is no absent trend
And in each volume on the wall
Each man or maid, from tent or hall
I greet a living friend
I feel the rhythmic breath of time
Blow chill and hot in every clime
The universe grows small
While science challenges the past
Religion quietly holds fast
And love speaks through it all
Yes, love speaks through it all
Within the pages of my books
Gone With the River
I’m headed somewhere
Got nowhere to be
I’ll climb every mountain
And swim every sea
Grass grows around me
It’s handed to fate
And I start to wonder
Too little too late
If I’m going, I’m going
And I’m gone
With the rivers, as they’re flowing
Along
Wonder surrounds me
As swift as the sky
As fast as the grass grows
I want to know why
Nature moves quickly
Yes, faster than fate
And I start to wonder
Too little too late
If I’m going, I’m going
And I’m gone
With the rivers, as they’re flowing
Along
Into the dark of night
Sleep by my side
So when the moon takes flight
You can hold me tight, ‘cause
I’m still headed somewhere
Still nowhere to be
I’ve climbed every mountain
And swam every sea
Grass had engulfed me
And so has fate
No time to wonder
Too little too late
‘Cause I’m going, I’m going
And I’m gone
And the rivers are still flowing
Along
I’m going, going, going
I’m gone
And the rivers are still flowing
Along
Yes, the rivers, they’re flowing
Along
