In the past, I thought city soundscapes were always filled with unpleasant sounds and they were too overwhelming for me until I heard the Kit Beach Soundwalk by Hildegard Westerkamp (1989) where Westerkamp suggested that we could 'play with the monster' (the overwhelming chaotic sounds and nosies of the city) after enjoying the tiny sounds, the dreams and the imagined world that could restore the balance. Therefore, I decided to literally play with the monsters by using the natural sounds to create the monster (city soundscape) and use the monster to create nature and that was the basic idea of Natural City and Urban Nature. This piece shows how different natural and city soundscapes are while questioning whether we can be calm and peaceful in the urban environment as we are in the forest or nature.
