Bio

C. Grace Chang (b. 1989, USA) is an artist, curator, writer, and filmmaker based in Malmö, Sweden. Born and raised in New Jersey, she is a Fourth Culture Kid and often explores liminality in her work. She combines decolonial theory with moving image, sound, and installation to examine the construction of visual safe havens, coded power structures, and refusal as a starting point. While her works build from theory, they also explore grief, memory, and parallel worlds.

Most recently, Krognoshuset commissioned a series of new works for her solo exhibition As smoke unfurling (2024) and Konstnärshuset commissioned her large immersive artwork Long time no see (jia gú boh kuàⁿ dio lì) (2023).

Last fall, she participated in the Evia Residency created by PROSPER, a multinational network supported by Creative Europe. This spring, she just led a pre-study about public art in the digital sphere in relation to the 1% Rule, supported by The Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s Fröpengar grant.

Previously, she was selected for the Swedish Film Institute and Film i Skåne’s Talent to Watch program (2021-2022). She has presented her artistic research and curatorial practice at Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm (2021), Nordisk Panorama Film Festival (2019), and the Contemporary Art Days national conference (2021).

Formerly editor at Sine Theta Magazine, she produced and hosted the Konst Detox Podcast, recorded with support from Inter Arts Center and the Swedish Arts Council. While curator at Skånes Konstförening (2020–2022), she founded and operated Third Space Residency for emerging queer and trans artists of color in the Skåne region.

She received her B.A. in English Language and Literature from Smith College, Massachusetts (2011). She then received M.A.s in Literature, Culture & Media (2016) and Visual Culture (2018), which included an artistic research project and exhibition, at Lund University.
