TaskTabs respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the TaskTabs iOS app does and does not collect, and how it is used. TaskTabs is a calendar that works out when you need to leave for an event, using live traffic and the buffer times you set. It does not require an account, a login, or a password.
The short version: We do not ask you to create an account. We do not sell your data. We use no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs and set no cookies. Your calendar lives in your own iCloud account, not on our servers. When location does leave your device, it travels without your name, your event titles, or anything else that identifies you.
INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT
• No account or profile: no name, email, or password is required to use the App.
• No ad or analytics trackers: the App contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, no crash-reporting SDK, and sets no cookies. There is no third-party SDK of any kind.
• No contacts, photos, health, or financial data: the App never asks for them.
• No browsing or search history, and no advertising identifier.
INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE AND IN YOUR ICLOUD
Your events, the places you are travelling to, your named buffer times, your groups, your check-ins, and your app preferences are stored on your device and synced through your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit.
This means your calendar content lives in Apple's iCloud under your Apple Account, not on any server we operate. We have no access to it, and we cannot read it.
If you have iCloud Backup enabled, this data is included in your private device backup.
INFORMATION SENT TO PROVIDE THE SERVICE
Routing and traffic (Apple). To work out how long a journey will take, the App asks Apple's MapKit for directions between your starting point and your destination. This request is handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy.
Weather (Apple). The Today screen's weather card and full-screen weather view use Apple Weather, via Apple's WeatherKit service. To fetch a forecast, the App sends your approximate location to Apple. This request is handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy, and the App displays the Apple Weather attribution wherever weather data appears.
Nearby events (Ticketmaster). If the Nearby feature is on (it can be turned off in Settings > Extras), the App asks the Ticketmaster Discovery API for public events - concerts, games, shows - happening near you on days you view. What is sent is deliberately coarse: a location rounded to about a kilometre and a date window - nothing else. No name, no identifier, no account, and nothing you have typed. Ticketmaster receives these requests under its own privacy policy (www.ticketmaster.com/privacy). Turning the feature off stops these requests entirely and clears any cached results.
The departure monitoring service. Note: as of version 1.0 this service is not enabled. Departure times are calculated on your device, and no such records are sent. This section describes what the service would receive if it is turned on in a future version. So that your departure alert could be corrected while the App is closed, TaskTabs would send a small record to a monitoring service we operate. That record would contain only:
• an origin and destination coordinate pair
• the event's start time
• the transport mode (driving, walking, or transit)
• the total number of buffer minutes, as a single number
• an anonymous Apple push notification token, which is required to deliver the alert
It would contain no name, no email, no account, no event title, no place name, no address, and no buffer labels. A complete dump of that service's database would read as "a device leaves point A for point B at 08:42." The push notification that comes back is equally blind - the App looks up your event's title locally, on your device, to compose the alert you actually see.
En-route sharing with your group. If you tap "On my way" for a particular event, the App shares your live position with the members of that one event's group, so they can see your ETA. This is described in full under Location below. That data travels through CloudKit and lives in the group members' own iCloud accounts - it does not pass through, and is not stored on, any server we operate.
Purchases (Apple). TaskTabs Pro is a one-time purchase of $3.99, processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment information; we never receive your card or payment details. We receive only an anonymous indication of whether a valid purchase is active.
LOCATION
TaskTabs requests When In Use location access only. It never requests Always-on location access.
Location is used for three things:
1. Working out your departure time - calculating the route from where you are to where you are going.
2. En-route sharing, which is entirely opt-in and scoped to a single event. Nothing is shared unless you tap "On my way" for a specific event. It is never a standing location share.
3. Weather and nearby events - an approximate location is used to fetch your local forecast from Apple Weather and, if the Nearby feature is on, to find public events near you (rounded to about a kilometre before it is sent).
An en-route session:
• can only be started by you, in the app, in the foreground - it can never be started in the background
• keeps iOS's blue location indicator visible on screen for its entire duration
• ends automatically when you arrive (within 150 metres of the destination), or 30 minutes after the event starts, whichever comes first
• can be stopped manually at any time, in one tap
CALENDAR ACCESS
If you choose to import from Apple Calendar, TaskTabs reads the calendars you explicitly select. The import is one-way and manual. TaskTabs never writes to, modifies, or deletes anything in your calendars.
NOTIFICATIONS
If you enable departure alerts, the App registers an anonymous Apple push notification token so alerts can be delivered. This token is not linked to any account or identity. If you turn alerts off, this stops.
HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use the limited information above only to operate the features you request: calculating when you need to leave, correcting that time when traffic changes, sharing your ETA with a group when you ask us to, and validating purchases. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.
DATA SHARING
We do not sell or rent your information. We do not share it with data brokers, and we do not join it with data from other apps or websites. We share information only with the service providers necessary to deliver the features above - Apple, for routing, weather, purchases, push delivery and iCloud sync - or where required by law. When the optional Nearby feature is on, Ticketmaster also receives a rounded location and a date window - never anything more.
TaskTabs does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, which is why the App never shows you a tracking permission prompt.
DATA RETENTION
Content in your own iCloud remains until you delete it. Deleting the App removes its local stores; iCloud content is removed by you through Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Storage.
If the departure monitoring service is enabled in a future version, records held by it purge automatically about an hour after the event they relate to. If Apple reports that a device's push token is no longer valid, all of that device's records are dropped entirely.
An en-route sharing session's location data ends with the session, as described under Location.
SECURITY
We use reasonable measures to protect information transmitted for purchases and, where enabled, departure monitoring, and all such traffic uses HTTPS. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
TaskTabs is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
INTERNATIONAL USERS
The App may be used worldwide. Information transmitted to provide the Service (for example, to Apple) may be processed in the United States and other countries.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page, and we will update the "Effective date" above.
