Simply put. . . tallow is the rendered fat from a cow .
During the butchering process , suet is collected from around the kidneys and liver . This suet has a rough texture but can be used in cooking and baking (similar to lard).
The suet is patiently melted until it separates into two layers : solid and liquid . The liquid is then purified and water is removed . What remains is what we can use for our moisturizing skin tallow .
The cows sourced for Taryn's Tallow grow up in the United States and are grass-fed and pasture raised . They are hormone-free , vaccine-free , and antibiotic-free .
Tallow History
Our ancestors did not waste a single part of a butchered animal . Tallow was rendered for cooking and to create candles , soap , cosmetics , and other skin products .
Beef tallow was used for frying foods and skin care up until the 1980's when the medical community and media pushed ideas of saturated fats as being "bad" for heart health . Instead of practicing moderation , tallow was forgotten . The alternative: vegetable and seed oils .

The Tallow-Skin Connection
Remember back in science class when we learned what an animal cell looks like vs a plant cell ? Tallow , being an animal product is more rapidly absorbed into our skin because it's chemical make-up is similar to our own .
Tallow mimics our natural oil production . It will lock in moisture and prevent over-production of sebum (the oil that causes acne). Tallow contains natural omega 3 fatty-acids which can help soothe irritated skin .
Tallow also contains vitamins A , D , E , and K . These vitamins encourage collagen production and skin renewal .
Tallow can also be used as a base oil for essential oils . Which is how we make Taryn's Tallow smell delicious .
