I am Taru. I envision myself helping technology organizations adopt the practices of social design effectively and sustainably.

At CommonsTech Foundation for Participatory Technologies, I design processes and tools that are aimed towards advancing data-driven and bottom-up governance of natural resources in rural India.

As an engineer turned design researcher, I am curious to explore the potential of bringing technology, design, and social science together to drive impactful change. I have over 4 years of experience in understanding the design of technological products in the corporate and social development space, using methods of ethnographic research, market research, and quantitative data analysis. What strikes as a worthwhile observation to me amongst all such experiences, is the exploration of the culture of design, i.e., the theorization and practice of approaching impact through design.

In attempts to advance the culture of social design amongst engineering students, I co-founded the ACM SIGCHI student chapter at IIIT, Bangalore under the mentorship of my advisor, Prof. Preeti Mudliar!
