Middleton Tartan

Green and red are the colours of the Middleton Tartan. In the 17th century, the family rose to prominence. John, son of Middleton of Coldham, was a soldier who returned to Scotland in 1642 to fight against Charles I. He was, however, very dissatisfied with the decision to hand up Charles I to the Parliamentarian troops, and subsequently joined forces with the Duke of Hamilton to try to save the king.
