Our team has a BIG heart, love serving our students, and truly want to help create a teacher workforce that represents the students of Texas. Tarleton Teachers will be successful in teaching the required knowledge and skills with high levels of student achievement, but more importantly are successful with diverse, and/or economically disadvantaged students in communities which have historically been underserved. Our entire faculty is developing and growing in the continuum of our own cultural responsiveness and awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We hope for growth through the self-study by developing a deeper understanding of our own practice in order to model and enact culturally sustaining pedagogy with diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching and enhance the learning of their students (Loughran et. al., 2007, p. ix).
We hope to determine a vision and shared understanding around diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as have increased self efficacy around our abilities as lifelong learners eager to take risks, engage with intercultural learning, solve problems, be flexible, embrace creativity, and work innovatively in a continuous dialogue with an emphasis on meaning-making and reflective action (Kalantzis and Cope, 2012).
