Audience

Originally created for Dr. Craig's class, "Functions and Chaos," an upper-level, college math course, this course was then implemented for K-12 teachers through the CCU MTC, as well as, education majors at CCU and freshmen math majors. Yes, a Möbius strip is a surface with only one continuous side and one edge, but there are a lot of other really interesting attributes to these simple loops. Things only get more interesting when you pull out scissors and start cutting!

Outline

1. Students predict what will happen when you cut some different loops, then after cutting said loops, reflect on why the result was the result.
2. Connect some loops together and see how cutting now changes your loops.
3. What would happen if you connected a möbius strip to the edge of a möbius strip?
