FUNGAL FIELDWORK AT TAPLIN'S FIELDS | 18th of October | 11 am | Bridgefoot Street Park
What if a fungus could tell you how to look?
Fungi are everywhere, but the mushroom is only the visible part. For this workshop, we'll use fungi as guides for exploring Taplin's Fields and the wider landscape of Bridgefoot Street Park.
Each participant will be given a different fungus and a way of paying attention.
One might lead you towards hidden networks. Another towards decomposition. Another towards smell. Another towards uncertainty.
Follow connections. Look beneath things. Find what is dying. Notice what is changing. Follow your nose. Listen. Wait. Get distracted. You don't necessarily have to find your fungus.
You have to see where it leads you.
The task isn't to become a mushroom expert. It's to temporarily let a fungus determine where your attention goes, and to see what becomes visible when you look at the garden from somewhere slightly sideways.
What is connected?
What is changing?
What is hidden?
What is being transformed?
Part nature walk, part fieldwork, part art-exercise, part deliberate uncertainty.
Come and investigate the garden from a fungal perspective!
🍄 The workshop will be led by Taplin's Fields Chair, Conor Courtney - researcher, artist and scientist.
