Frequently Asked Questions
We are located inside Bridgefoot Street Park, In Dublin 8.
The park is located on Bridgefoot Street, between Thomas Street and The River Liffey.
We are across the river from Smithfield.
The Community Garden takes up roughly a quarter of the park, on the North-west side.
Bridgefoot Street Park is open 24/7 and you can come to admire our work anytime.
Our official gardening hours are Saturdays 11am - 1pm, though this may be cancelled if raining.
We ask new gardeners to come during these hours.
Our regular gardeners can occasionally be spotted on Sundays and weekday evenings.
We love welcoming new faces at the garden! Feel free to get in touch with us through our email or Instagram page.
To garden with us, all you need to do is come to the garden after 11 am on a Saturday. You will often find a gardener around our tool shed, the yellow container. Introduce yourself and let us know you are looking to garden. We will get you set up with tools, and help you find a project, as well as a fellow gardener to guide you through your first day at the garden.
Our community garden is very different to an allotment.
In allotments, you join a waiting list to be allocated a plot of land, which you will be solely responsible for. In our community garden there is no waiting list, and the land is completely shared. No one owns a plot. Every bed and plant is a group effort. Our produce is shared among us.
You can join in wherever it appeals most to you, or put your energy where it's most needed.
There are many benefits!
We have no waiting list
You don't need any tools, equipment, or plants to get started
You are free to come as often or infrequently as you like
Plant care can be shared among the group, and no plant will die if you go on holiday
Community gardens get you talking with local people from all walks of life; sharing in a group project is a great way to make new friends and connect with your community.
You only need yourself to join in and start gardening!
We will provide you with garden tools and protective gloves.
You may also choose to bring :
Sun protection, hat, sunglasses, sun cream
Wet weather gear if rain is forecast
Clothes and shoes that you're okay with getting a little mucky.
We don't have a secure place for storage , so do not bring any valuable items with you!
Thats okay!
many of us know nothing when we start.
Our goal is not to be expert gardeners or have perfect produce.
We provide a space where you can mix with local people, enjoy being outdoors and getting involved in hands on activities.
The plants we grow are constantly changing with the seasons and evolving as we learn what works and what doesn't.
We are always open to suggestions and interested in starting new projects.
