Chapter 034 - 2011.04.07

  • Found an old Excel file -

    • with this date.

  • Kindness Competitions are an alternative way to do team competitions.

  • I made the discovery while doing a practice mini-triathlon session -

    • with my tri-club -

      • on our regular Thursday night get togethers.

  • We were a great assortment of ages and performance levels -

    • as well as both genders.

  • I thought there must be a way to add a little something -

    • in the way of a group competition -

      • that would incentivize everyone to push a little harder -

        • no matter whether -

          • you were the top performer or -

            • last one in.

  • And kindness competitions grew out of this new pursuit.

  • The solution is fully baked -

  • You and anyone else can use this tool to -

    • create your own different types of kindness competitions.

  • The solution creates two (2) or more teams -

    • out of all the participants, but -

      • no one knows who is on what team.

  • This way everyone cheers on and helps everyone else.

  • There are no team captains -

    • everyone is an equal -

      • the top performers are no more important -

        • than the bottom performers.

  • The solution trick -

    • was to establish performance balance -

      • across each team -

        • with all participants.

  • But done after all performances are completed -

    • instead of before.

  • This way the solution can find -

    • the very best balancing combinations.

  • What results is -

    • every participant pushing a little bit harder -

      • to deliver slightly better personal results -

        • counts more equally.

  • So it does matter matter -

    • if that improvement comes from -

      • the top or bottom participant.

  • It does not matter what the competition measures:

    • time

    • distance

    • count

    • accuracy

    • etc.

    • Many many different types of kindness competitions are possible.

  • What it cannot do is -

    • individual performance type competitions -

      • where the objective is to establish a top performing individual participant.
