DEPED DOESN'T PLAN TO SHORTEN THE SUMMER BREAK
The Department of Education (DepEd) said it is no longer considering having two-week summer break for students, which usually lasts for two months.
“[D]ahil ako ang dating natanong dito, and I was very clear that it was not yet a policy, nasabi ko rin kanina na hindi na ‘yan kasama sa proposals namin kapag nag-usap tungkol sa summer break,” said DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio on GMA, Wednesday.
“I clarified that the previous news about a possible two-week summer break (attributed to me) will no longer be proposed by the Curriculum and Instruction strand,” he added in a separate statement.
In February, Pinoy netizens opposed the secretary's statement that he planned to shorten the summer break so that students could complete their school requirements in distance learning during this pandemic.
Meanwhile, yesterday DepEd pushed the end of the current school year to July 10, from June 11.
According to DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, this is to address the "learning gaps" of students in all public elementary and secondary schools nationwide.
